Mike Smeekes, a songwriter, media composer, and music producer, has immersed himself in music since childhood. Discovering a passion for artists such as AC/DC, Elvis Presley, Di-rect, and Linkin' Park.

His musical journey started in secondary school, where he developed a passion for music during music class. Forming a band at a young age, they only played covers from the biggest rock bands before disbanding due to members pursuing studies. During gap years, he improved his musical skills, notably in guitar playing and songwriting. Forming a new band at 20, they spent three years creating progressive rock music, winning the audience award at the Grote Prijs van Leusden.

 

After disbanding, Mike shifted focus to independent music production, completing Master The Mix in preparation for the bachelor Composition & Music Production at HKU in 2019, where he graduated in 2024. During his time at HKU, he transitioned his focus from band music to composing for films, collaborating with numerous directors and creating scores for their short films.

Currently engaged in music production and media composition, Mike has planned an upcoming album for his band PLIFF and intends to continue composing for film. Exciting musical endeavors lie ahead—stay tuned! ♫
